The Soviet flag

The Soviet Union managed to place its flag on the surface of the Moon, Mars and Venus through several automated probes. Since most of these ships made only one trip, none of the flags was able to return to Earth to be displayed. Except one. In July 1969 a Soviet teaches traveled to the lunar surface and returned our planet. Curiously, he did not board a ship of the USSR. This flag would travel to the Apollo 11.

Edwn Neil Armstrong and Aldrin would become the first humans on the surface of the moon when the lunar module Eagle landed on the Sea of \u200b\u200bTranquility on July 20, 1969. A year later, in May 1970, Armstrong left for the USSR to carry out a diplomatic tour of several days. Neil was the second American astronaut walk on the Soviet Union, where he would be received by cosmonauts Georgi Beregovoy (Soyuz 3) and Konstantin Feoktistov (Vosjod 1).

Neil spent five days in Leningrad and later received permission to travel to Moscow. There would be received in the Kremlin by Alexei Kosygin, chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR. Armstrong would give more gifts from President Richard Nixon, including a small capsule with samples of lunar surface inside y. .. a Soviet flag. Kosygin was aware of the difficulties she was having Soviet manned lunar program at that time, a program that remained secret from the rest of the world shocked and exclaimed "what you saw is something that I can never see." The flag had been carried to the moon in Apollo 11 as part of a diplomatic initiative of the Nixon administration with other national emblems of several states, most U.S. allies.

paradoxes of history, this would be achieved only Soviet flag flying to the moon in a manned mission. Today you can see at the Museum of Cosmonauts in Moscow.
