Shocks On A Jeep Liberty

The Dark Side of the Moon as never

less than a month ago we enjoyed a spectacular mosaic nearside of the Moon courtesy of the LRO (Luna Reconnaissance Orbiter). And now it is the turn to the dark side , that great unknown:

Mosaic Side of the Moon (NASA / LRO).

relief map of the moon created from data from the Japanese probe Kaguya ( high resolution version) (JAXA).

As you know, the dark side does not present the characteristic seas (maria ) of the visible hemisphere. This dichotomy is due to the increased thickness of the crust on the far side, which in turn hindered the basaltic volcanism reached the surface in areas we call dark seas. This mosaic consists of 15,000 images taken by WAC between November 2009 and February 2011. The camera observes the Moon WAC at seven wavelengths (321, 360, 415, 566, 604, 643 and 689 nm) from a polar orbit of 50 km in height. LRO images, combined with laser altimeter data LOLA, will create three-dimensional model of the lunar surface more detailed history.
